Covid Update, October 2021

While there is a threat of a third wave predicted in India in mid-October, the decrease in infections and death rates is encouraging. Medical communities are cautiously optimistic; the number of vaccinated adults is above 80% in all our immediate access regions. There have been zero cases in the area over the last four weeks. Schools and colleges are opening in phases as I write this.

At the same time, the daily wage laborers and contract factory workers are still facing difficulty in finding jobs. The unemployment rate among new job seekers is at an all-time high. We are continuing to serve food relief to needy families and communities. Since the second wave (April 2021), we added 600 more families, a government-run Blind school, and an orphanage with close to 100 children into our monthly food relief program.

Many thanks to the infectious disease physicians and counselors here in the United States, taking time over zoom to share insights and counseling to the physicians and healthcare professionals in our network during the peak of the second wave. The medical community we work with was touched and appreciated these efforts tremendously.

Because of your generosity, the airlifted PPE kits, oxygen, and medical supplies were distributed to the area's public health centers and hospitals. We also have set up pandemic preparedness centers at the two polyclinics that we have established over the year. We have recently added a Micro Ambulance serving our immediate access regions. Our Mobile Medical Unit is serving rural communities with vaccination programs and medical camps.

We will be releasing your IMPACT numbers on covid relief right around Thanksgiving. On behalf of our brothers and sisters, boys and girls in our immediate access regions, Sue and I express our heartfelt gratitude for your concern, prayers, and overwhelming generosity.

God Bless,

Ashish & Sue Pushkaran
